The Women’s Premier League’s second edition kicked off on Friday, February 23, 2024, with an inaugural clash between the Mumbai Indians and the Delhi Capitals at Bengaluru’s M Chinnaswamy Stadium. Preceding the match, a vibrant opening ceremony unfolded, featuring stellar performances by renowned Bollywood stars including Shah Rukh Khan, Shahid Kapoor, Kartik Aaryan, Sidharth Malhotra, Varun Dhawan, and Tiger Shroff.

The defending champions opened their Women’s Premier League campaign triumphantly at Bengaluru’s M. Chinnaswamy Stadium.

MI captain Harmanpreet Kaur won the toss and elected to field first. A magnificent 75-run innings by Alice Capsey propelled the Delhi Capitals to a total of 171/5 in their allotted 20 overs, with Natalie Sciver shining as MI’s standout bowler, claiming figures of 2/33 in four overs.

In pursuit of 172 for victory, Mumbai Indians lost the wicket of Hayley Matthews on the second ball of their innings. Yastika Bhatia and Harmanpreet Kaur then steadied the ship with individual half-centuries.

As the match approached its climax, MI required five runs off the final delivery with newcomer Sajeevan Sajana at the crease following Harmanpreet’s departure. Sajana promptly dispatched the ball for a maximum, securing a dramatic win for her team.

In the first match of WPL 2024, Mumbai Indians defeated Delhi Capitals by 4 wickets and won 2 points.

Royal Challengers Bangalore and UP Warriorz

The second match of WPL 2024 took place tonight (Saturday, February 24) at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium. Home team Royal Challengers Bangalore were up against Alyssa Healy-led UP Warriors. Both teams aimed to make a winning start to their respective campaigns.

Smriti Mandhana and Co. had a very poor start to their WPL 2023 campaign as they lost their first five games. But this time Royal Challengers looked different and started their campaign with a win.
